Introduction:
Capitol Peak is a high and prominent mountain summit in the Elk Mountains range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 4,309 m fourteener is located in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness of White River National Forest, 8.7 miles.

Facts:
The Capital Ditch trail leaves from the western end of the trailhead parking area and follows alongside an irrigation ditch beneath the ridge defining the western side of the valley.

Get in:
The first destination is the tiny hamlet of Snowmass (not Snowmass Village), which is located on SH 82 28 miles south of Glenwood Springs or 13.1 miles south from Maroon Creek Road in Aspen. Turn west at Snowmass onto Snowmass Creek Road. After 1.7 miles from SH 82, turn right onto Capitol Creek Road.
