Introduction:
Playa de Gulpiyuri is a flooded sinkhole with an inland beach located near Llanes, Spain around 100 m from the Cantabrian Sea. Roughly 40 meters in length, it is fully tidal due to a series of underground tunnels carved by the salt water of the Cantabrian Sea which allows water from the Bay of Biscay to create small waves.

Because it’s only 40 meters in length, and outside viewing range from the shoreline, Playa de Gulpiyuri can be pretty hard to find, unless you have an updated GPS map or ask for directions from the locals. Even so, it’s best to avoid visiting it on weekends, when the beach is simply inundated by tourists from all around the world.
