Introduction:

Smögen is a locality situated in Sotenäs Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 1,329 inhabitants in 2010. It is one of the liveliest "summer towns" of the Swedish West Coast.
The community actually straddled several islands that lay so close together that the space in between has since been filled, and is now considered as a single island.

Facts:

It hit the big time in the late 1960s as tourists began to discover its unassuming charms. Then, during the 1970s, it became the number-one summer destination for Swedish teens and 20-somethings who came here to party all night long in the countless bars that once lined the jetty. Things are quieter now and Smögen, though still busy, is once again regaining its dignity. When it comes to beaches, most people take the boat from the harbour to the tiny, low-lying island of Hallö where the smooth, flat rocks that make up the entire island, which is also a nature reserve, are perfect for sunbathing and swimming.

Back on the mainland, Smögen is a picture-postcard-perfect town with Sweden’s longest boardwalk and a half-mile stretch of brightly coloured sea huts selling lip-smacking prawn sandwiches. It also offers a beautifully situated harbour and all the amenities of a small Swedish town
