Introduction:

Glen Coe  is a glen of volcanic origins, in the Highlands of Scotland. It lies in the southern part of the Lochaber committee area of Highland Council, and was formerly part of the county of Argyll. It is often considered one of the most spectacular and beautiful places in Scotland, and is a part of the designated National Scenic Area of Ben Nevis and Glen Coe

Facts:

Despite Fingal's acclaimed success, the Scandinavian influence would live on in Glencoe. The Clan MacDougall, which owed its origins to the Vikings, ruled over Glencoe until the end of the 13th century. However, their empire collapsed after 1308 when they decided to support John Balliol's claim to the Scottish throne over that of Robert the Bruce. Later, as undisputed king, Bruce gifted Glencoe to Clan MacDonald.

Getting There:

Regular local buses operated by Stagecoach [2] run from Fort William and Kinlochleven to Glencoe Village. Scottish Citylink coaches [3] from Glasgow (and Edinburgh during the summers season) to Fort William, Kyle of Lochalsh and Skye pass through the glen itself and stop in Glencoe Village several times a day. In addition, Citylink coaches running between Oban and Fort William stop in Ballachulish several times a day.
